Most mornings on my bush walk with Wiley I have a stumble, slip or trip over something but I generally manage to stay upright, I wasn’t quite so lucky this morning.
I am not exactly sure what happened, one minute I was walking along the next I was on the ground. I think my cane tip hit a particularly sandy patch and got stuck, I kept moving forward and tripped over the cane.
Thankfully Wiley was having a bit of a sniff at a shrub so I had slowed down if I had been walking quicker I might have had a more serious fall.
As it was I took some skin of my palms, got a dusty chin and a rather bruised and blooded knee as it hit a rock. I also bent my cane but I managed to straighten it without breaking it so I could still use it.
Wiley was very sweet, he immediately came over to me as I was sprawled out on the trail. He sniffed me all over – I figured I was getting a full lab test 🙂
I gingerly stood up and stretched everything out – there were no strains or sprains but my knee was sore enough to make me limp for the rest of the walk. I think Wiley enjoyed my slower pace as he got in more sniffing time.
When I got home I cleaned up and disinfected my knee and palms. Now my knee is a little stiff but I feel very fortunate as it could have been worse.
The last few days have been very busy with social engagements. Wiley and I had lunch with a friend on Saturday, went to my sisters party on Sunday and caught up with another friend and her service dog yesterday. It was very busy in the city, Wiley did a great job guiding me through the crowds. We were both exhausted by the time we got home.
On the baking front I am pleased to report the caramel popcorn, fudge, shortbread, and chocolate caramel macadamias all worked out well. All I have left to do today is try to put together and decorate a gingerbread house. I am not sure how that will go. I hope I can feel my way through it – although I expect it will end up looking like it is a condemned house! My thinking is that as long as I stick enough sweets and chocolate on it then it will be well received.
I can’t wait until tomorrow – family, good food and a dog with lots of new toys we can play with:)
